Our Luwak Coffee
The exact origins of luwak coffee are not clear, but it is believed to have been discovered by farmers in Indonesia during the 19th century. During this time, coffee was primarily grown for export to Europe by the Dutch colonial government, and was not widely available or accessible to the local population. However, the local farmers noticed that wild civets were eating coffee cherries and leaving behind partially digested beans in their droppings. These beans were then collected, washed, and roasted, resulting in a coffee with a unique and highly prized flavor profile.
The practice of collecting and processing coffee beans from civet droppings became more widespread during the 20th century, as local farmers began to recognize the value of this unique coffee. Today, luwak coffee is a highly sought-after luxury item, prized for its rare and exotic flavor profile.
